Credit card payment protection could come in very handy if you lose your income after falling ill for a prolonged period of time. Or, you might have to take some time away from work in order to recover and during this time you would still have to find the money to meet your credit card repayments. You could also fall victim to an accident that could see you away from work for some time or even become unemployed where you have to find work again.
You are able to insure the amount that you pay out for your credit cards or loans each money up to a certain amount set out by the provider. All providers will only allow you to insure up to so much and this money is what you would receive back if and when you had to put in a claim on the policy. You would have to be unemployed or incapacitated for a continuous amount of time before you were able to put in a claim.
For example, independent provider British Insurance states that you need to be unable to work or unemployed for at least a period of 30 days and this would have to be continuous. You would not be allowed claim if you were unable to work for 20 days then went back to work for a couple of days and found yourself unable to work again. They would backdate the benefit to the first day of becoming unemployed or of being incapacitated. With British Insurance you would have a period of 12 months in which to find yourself another job or to recover and get back to work before the benefit would stop.
There are other payment protection providers that might offer you the chance to take out credit card payment protection for 24 months and some might ask that you do not put in a claim on the policy until the 90th day of continuous unemployment or incapacity. You would need to check the small print of any policy you are thinking of taking out as they do vary considerably and there are exclusions that have to be checked against your circumstances too.
Credit card protection insurance insurance would allow you great peace of mind. You would not have to worry about finding the money each month to meet your debt, nor would need to struggle and make huge changes to your lifestyle. You would just carry on paying the credit card bill or the loan repayments when they were due. If you fall behind into arrears then you could see yourself in court and have the judge sending bailiffs into your home to take what you owe from your possessions.
